How can I monitor vendor release notes, changelogs, and API documentation?

Learn how to get notified when the tools and platforms you rely on publish new releases, change their APIs, or announce deprecations. This helps product, engineering, and partnerships teams react before a change affects your product or customers.

Most teams depend on third-party tools, platforms, and APIs, and those vendors change things all the time. ChangeTower lets you monitor release notes, changelogs, and API documentation so you hear about new features, breaking changes, and deprecations as soon as they're published.

Step 1: Decide which vendor pages to monitor

Common examples include:

  • Release notes, changelogs, and "What's new" pages

  • API reference and developer documentation

  • Deprecation, migration, and sunset notices

  • Developer and platform policies

  • Pricing, usage limits, and rate limit pages

Step 2: Add your pages

In the left navigation menu, click on New Monitor. Use single-page monitoring for one page, or Monitor Multiple Pages to add pages from many vendors at once. Our guide to importing URLs walks you through it.

Step 3: Choose how changes are detected

  • Smart Monitor – describe the changes that matter to your team. Read our Smart Monitor guide to learn how to set it up. For example:

    • Notify me when a new release or version is published

    • Notify me when an endpoint is deprecated or a breaking change is announced

    • Notify me when rate limits or usage limits change

  • Specific Elements – on long documentation pages, focus on just the section you depend on, such as a single endpoint or parameter table. Our guide to monitoring specific elements shows you how.

Step 4: Reduce noise

Documentation sites often include navigation menus, sidebars, version selectors, and "last updated" timestamps that change without affecting the content. Ignore those areas so you're only notified about real updates. Our guide to ignoring page elements shows you how.

Step 5: Customize monitor details

In the Details section, you can:

  • Add tags by vendor, integration, or owning team

  • Set the monitoring frequency

  • Enable or disable email alerts

Step 6: Get changes to the people who need to act

Create monitors right from your browser

Reading a vendor's docs and spot a page you depend on? With the ChangeTower Chrome extension, you can set up a monitor without leaving the page. Click the ChangeTower icon in your browser toolbar and describe what to watch for, for example "Watch for breaking changes in this API reference."
