How can I monitor regulatory websites for new rules and guidance?

Learn how to get notified when regulators such as the SEC, FINRA, FDIC, or FDA publish new rules, guidance, or enforcement actions. This helps compliance teams stay current without checking regulator websites manually.

Regulators publish new rules, guidance, FAQs, and enforcement actions on their websites, often without a reliable way to be notified. ChangeTower lets you monitor the regulator pages that matter to your business, such as the SEC, FINRA, FDIC, FDA, state insurance departments, or international regulators, and get notified when something new is posted.

Step 1: Choose the regulatory pages to monitor

Monitor the pages where new content is listed, rather than a regulator's homepage. For example:

  • News and press release pages

  • Rule, guidance, and notice listings

  • Enforcement action pages

  • FAQ pages and specific guidance documents you rely on

  • Recall and safety alert pages

Tip: If a regulator's website lets you filter listings by topic, apply the filters first and check whether the URL changes. If it does, monitor the filtered URL so you only track what's relevant to you.

Step 2: Add your pages

In the left navigation menu, click on New Monitor. Use single-page monitoring for one page, or Monitor Multiple Pages to add pages from several regulators at once. Our guide to importing URLs walks you through it.

Step 3: Choose how changes are detected

  • Smart Monitor – describe the updates that matter to you. Read our Smart Monitor guide to learn how to set it up. For example:

    • Notify me when new guidance related to advertising or marketing communications is published

    • Notify me when a new enforcement action is posted

    • Notify me when a recall is announced for medical devices

  • Keyword change monitoring – track specific words or phrases, such as a rule number or topic.

  • Content change monitoring – get notified about any change, best for specific guidance pages you need to follow word for word.

Step 4: Customize monitor details

In the Details section, you can:

  • Add tags by regulator, jurisdiction, or topic

  • Set the monitoring frequency

  • Choose save options – save on every run, or only when changes are detected

Step 5: Set up your review workflow
