How do I create my first monitor?

Learn how to set up your first monitor in ChangeTower, from choosing a monitor type to picking how often the page is checked.

A monitor tells ChangeTower which page to watch and what kind of change you want to hear about. This article walks you through monitor setup.

Step 1: Start a new monitor

In the left navigation menu, click on New Monitor.

Step 2: Choose how you want to proceed with setup

  • Smart Monitor – use this shortcut to set up your monitor using our smart, AI-powered engine for change tracking.

  • Add a URL manually – enter a URL into ChangeTower and start monitoring it for changes.

  • Bulk setup – best if you want to set up several URLs at the same time.

  • Entire website – ChangeTower scans the entire website and finds available URLs on it.

Step 3: Enter the page you want to monitor

Paste the full URL of the page. Use the exact page you care about rather than the website's homepage.

Step 4: Configure your monitor

Settings to configure:

  • Check type – choose between tracking content or keyword changes. Alternatively, choose Smart Monitor and describe the change you want to hear about.

  • Page area – if you want to watch only specific part(s) of the page, you can select specific elements or ignore elements that change often.

  • Manual user actions – add actions like user clicks and entering text to get to the part of the page you need to monitor.

Step 5: Set your monitor details

Open the Details section to:

  • Give the monitor a name you'll recognize later

  • Add folders and tags so you can group and filter monitors

  • Choose the monitoring frequency, or create a schedule for your monitors

  • Turn email alerts on or off, or send notifications to a Slack channel of your choice

  • Choose save options – save on every run, or only when changes are detected

Step 6: Create the monitor

Click Create. ChangeTower checks the page for the first time and saves a starting snapshot. From then on, every check is compared against what it saw before, and you'll be notified when something changes.

What happens next

Your first alert only arrives once the page actually changes, so it's normal to hear nothing for a while. You can see every detected change on your Notifications page.
