How do I edit, pause, or delete a monitor?

Learn how to change a monitor's settings, pause checking without losing its history, or delete a monitor you no longer need. This helps you keep your monitor list tidy and organized.

You can change a monitor's settings at any time, pause it when you don't need it, or delete it when you're done. Here's how.

Editing a monitor

Open your monitor list and click the monitor you want to edit. From the actions menu dropdown, select the 'Edit' option.

From here you can update:

  • The monitor's name, tags and folder assignment

  • The monitoring frequency or schedule

  • Email alerts

  • Slack channel to receive alerts

  • Save options

  • What's being tracked, such as the Smart Monitor criteria, or the elements you're monitoring or ignoring

  • Manual user actions (enter text, clicks, time delay)

Click on the Save button to apply your changes.

Tip: If a monitor is sending you alerts about changes you don't care about, edit it rather than deleting it. Narrowing your Smart Monitor criteria or ignoring a noisy part of the page usually fixes it.

Pausing a monitor

Pausing stops ChangeTower from checking the page, but keeps the monitor and its history. It's useful when a page is temporarily down, under redesign, or out of season.

To pause a monitor, click on the actions menu dropdown and select the 'Pause' option. To start checking again, click 'Resume'.

Deleting a monitor

Deleting removes the monitor along with its saved snapshots and change history. This can't be undone, so pause instead if you think you might need the history later.

To delete a monitor, click on the 'Archive' option in the actions menu dropdown. Confirm your intent to delete, and the monitor will be removed from your workspace.

Deleting a monitor frees up a page slot on your plan, so you can add a different page in its place.
